Two of the most powerful phones of the year launched in China within four days of each other, and both are now preparing wider rollouts. The OnePlus 16 went official on 12 October 2026 and is expected to reach global markets on 31 October, while the gaming-focused RedMagic 12 Pro+ will arrive worldwide as the RedMagic 12 Pro on 3 November 2026. Both run the same headline processor, Qualcomm’s 2 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, and both push battery capacities to levels that were unthinkable a generation ago. Here is everything announced so far, from record opening sales to prices and hardware details.

OnePlus 16: A 9,000 mAh Flagship With Record Opening Sales

OnePlus unveiled its new flagship in China on 12 October 2026 and put it on sale one day later through the OPPO online store. According to OnePlus China president Li Jie, more than 70,000 units were sold in the first hour, which the company describes as the strongest Android flagship opening of the year. A wider release is expected on 31 October, but buyers in North America and Europe are out of luck: OnePlus officially exited those markets in July 2026, and an India launch date has not been confirmed yet.

The hardware is where the OnePlus 16 makes its case. It sports a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1,272 x 2,772 resolution, a system-wide 165 Hz refresh rate that climbs to 185 Hz in optimized games and up to 2,000 nits of local peak brightness. The 2 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 clocks up to 5.01 GHz, supported by up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X Ultra memory and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Photography is handled by a 200 MP f/1.6 main camera with dual-axis OIS and a large 1/1.4-inch sensor, a 50 MP ultrawide and a 50 MP 3x telephoto, plus a 50 MP front camera. The 9,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery charges at 100 W wired, reaching 80% in 37 minutes, and 50 W wireless, and the phone is rated IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K. ColorOS 17 based on Android 17 ships out of the box.

RedMagic 12 Pro+: The 185 Hz Gaming Phone Lands Worldwide on 3 November

RedMagic launched the 12 Pro+ in China on 15 October 2026 and confirmed that the international version will be announced as the RedMagic 12 Pro on 3 November 2026. A limited Golden Saga edition with 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage was also previewed at the event, but its price and release date have not been revealed yet.

The gaming phone centers on a 6.85-inch BOE X11 OLED panel with a 2,688 x 1,216 resolution, a 185 Hz refresh rate and remarkably thin 0.96 mm bezels, and thanks to ninth-generation under-display camera technology there is no notch or punch-hole at all: the 16 MP selfie camera hides beneath the screen. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 works alongside the in-house RedCore R5 gaming chip, and RedMagic reports an AnTuTu score of 5,670,006. On the back there is a 50 MP main camera with OIS and a 50 MP ultrawide. The 8,400 mAh battery supports 120 W wired and an industry-fastest 80 W wireless charging, plus bypass charging that powers the phone directly during long gaming sessions. Cooling combines a 25,500 rpm fan with a liquid-cooling loop and RGB lighting, and the phone keeps gamer favorites such as 700 Hz shoulder triggers and a 3.5 mm headphone jack in an 8.55 mm, 223 g body rated IP68 and IP69. Android 17 with RedMagic OS 12 runs out of the box.

First-batch buyers in China paid less thanks to launch promotions and the national subsidy, which brought the OnePlus 16 down to CNY 5,199 for the base model during the opening window. Color options include Starlight, Martian Masterpiece and Dark Forest for the OnePlus 16, and three transparent finishes for the RedMagic 12 Pro+.

What It Means for Buyers

Both launches raise the bar for battery endurance, with nearly 9,000 mAh becoming the new flagship standard, and the shared 2 nm chipset makes late 2026 the fastest generation of phones yet. For anyone outside China, the dates to watch are 31 October, when the OnePlus 16 begins its global rollout in Asian and other selected markets, and 3 November, when RedMagic details international prices and availability for the 12 Pro. Buyers in the United States and Europe should temper expectations for the OnePlus, since the brand has formally left those regions.
